In conjunction with International Cosmetics & Perfumes, Hanae Mori introduced her first perfume in 1995. Mori is one of the first women in Japan to have a career and is often regarded as an icon for the liberated woman. In recognition for her work Mori was awarded the Legion of Honor medal by the President of France and the Order of Culture medal by the Emperor of Japan. She eventually opened a boutique in Paris and in time became the first Asian woman to be admitted as an official haute couture design house by the Fédération Française de la Couture in France. Mori presented her first international collection, “East Meets West” in New York in 1965. Her work quickly gained attention and in addition to producing current fashions, she was called upon to produce costumes for major motion pictures. After completing her studies in literature at Tokyo Woman’s Christian College she studied dressmaking and opened a shop in 1951-the first by a woman in Japan. Born in 1926 in Yoshika Japan, Hanae Mori is the most internationally renowned female fashion designer in her country.
